GTI Covers Will Help Water Filtration Plant Meet Drinking Water Guidelines

Geomembrane Technologies Inc. (GTI) has been awarded a cover project for a water filtration plant in Australia.

The filtration plant uses a local river as a water source, which is a highly-variable, high-risk catchment. To ensure the plant continues to meet drinking water guidelines for filter turbidity targets, the plant wanted to cover the open space above the GAC contactors and channels. This will prevent birds and other small creatures from entering, helping protect against biological contamination.

The water filtration plant wanted tensioned membrane covers, and GTI’s structurally supported covers were the perfect fit for the project. The retractable covers are tensioned across low-profile aluminum arched frames that span the tank opening. They will help protect the plant’s water from Cryptosporidium, while still providing access for routine maintenance and sampling. The covers will also block sunlight to minimize algae growth, further improving the quality of the filtration plant’s water.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2017.
